Remember the post about the “lift to the toilet MASS email” as a reaction to the numerous mass emails that were sent around? Well, when my friend first sent out this email indicating “MASS: lift to the toilet” in the subject line. Needless to say that everyone took this for a log off and did not open the email. A friend sitting across the table at that time pointed this out to him. So the original writer sent out the same email (body text-wise) and changed the subject line to “MASS”. Then someone came into the cubicle to check briefly his email. The writer asked what he thought about his email, expecting to hear “a touch of genius”, “wondrous piece of writing”, “Goncourt Prize worthy”, etc…The poor student indicated that he deletes every Mass email without reading them. Disappointed our writer went on sending the same email again, this time with no subject line.
So his crusade against the proliferation of Mass emails translated into his sending three identical Mass emails reaching the entire Insead community in less than 5 minutes.
